Fridges that click, dryers that dawdle, and water heaters that rumble for no reason they care to share.
Most fridge clicks are normal switches doing their job. The thermostat or control board clicks when the compressor starts and stops, and a defrost timer clicks a few times a day. On a traditional fridge, a click every few minutes while it gets warmer usually means the compressor is failing to start and a safety switch keeps shutting it off. Newer inverter fridges fail more quietly, often with an error code instead.
